Welcome to the English Riviera

A Great Time Anytime

The warmest of welcomes awaits you on the English Riviera, Devon’s Beautiful Bay. Surrounded by stunning coast and countryside: Torbay, including Torquay, Babbacombe, Cockington, Paignton and Brixham.

The English Riviera may be most famous for its award winning sandy beaches and exotic palm trees, but has much more to offer than just seaside holidays. The English Riviera has a great choice of indoor and outdoor and has been designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Getting out on the water is what our visitors love to do, and there is a great selection of boat trips and tasty local food including the freshest fish and seafood on what is now known as England's Seafood Coast with many new restaurants and bars having opened in recent years.

Torquay is the birthplace of the world's greatest crime writer Agatha Christie, and the whole resort is the location for a packed programme of events and festivals.

South West Coast Path

The famous South West Coast Path transforms a relaxing and idyllic visit to the English Riviera and South Devon into an exciting adventure.  The whole 630-mile coast path meanders along some of the most spectacular coastline in the country with plenty to see and do on the way.

Dartmouth Steam Railway

The Dartmouth Steam Railway from Paignton runs for seven miles in Great Western tradition along the spectacular Torbay coast to Churston and through the wooded slopes bordering the Dart estuary to Kingswear. The scenery is superb, with seascapes right across Lyme Bay to Portland Bill on clear days. Approaching Kingswear is the beautiful River Dart, with its fascinating craft, and on the far side, the olde worlde town of Dartmouth and the famous Britannia Royal Naval College.

Dartmoor

Situated in the south west of England, right in the very heart of Devon, Dartmoor is an ancient landscape of stunning views, awe inspiring granite tors, deep wooded valleys with fast flowing rivers, and rugged, wide open spaces.

Dartmoor ponies are an iconic sight, living as semi-wild herds all over the moor. Where else can you see the wonderful sight of wild pony foals playing together against a backdrop of one of the most stunningly beautiful areas in the UK?

Dartmoor also has a very gentle side. Safe, quiet areas where you can picnic with the family, easy to follow trails for strolling, many lovely open spaces, and a huge number of friendly places to stay, to eat and attractions to visit.

Cream Tea

A cream tea  is a form of afternoon tea light meal, consisting of tea taken with a combination of scones, clotted cream, and jam. Traditionally a speciality of Devon and Cornwall, cream teas are offered for sale in tea rooms in those two counties.

The Devonian  method is to split the scone in two, cover each half with clotted cream, and then add strawberry jam on top.

Paignton Bike Night

BMAD started way back in 2002 with an idea by the founders of ‘Bikers Make A Difference’ Kelvin and Jane Halloran, which was to have a social gathering of bikers on Paignton Seafront in Devon, they wanted to raise money for charity and have a good time as well.
Over the years this is exactly what has happened, Paignton Bike Night finally saw its birth in 2003 and has gone on to become the longest running and largest regular social gathering of bikers in the South West of England.
Each year on Paignton Seafront there is regularly a mile of bikes parked side by side every Wednesday evening from May to Sept. Bikers mix with locals and holiday makers alike, the bikers enjoying chips, coffee or ice cream, the locals walk their dogs and the holiday makers stroll through the bikes enjoying the evening sunshine whilst walking off their evening meals! The atmosphere is wonderful!
